Simple to install, inspect or remove
When you are out at sea in challenging conditions, repair or maintenance needs to be performed quickly and effectively. Gaining access to vital components without having to remove equipment not only protects workers from possible injuries but can be the decisive factor between continuing operations or planning for necessary downtime.
Cooper split bearings are split to the shaft bearings designed to be disassembled into smaller components – easing the tasks of lifting and handling and making assembly or change-out simple in even the most cramped positions. Clearances are pre-set so no on-board adjustment is needed, and no specialist fitting tools are required.
Our long experience in the requirements of the marine segment means that the standard product can incorporate a range of customized features to suit individual requirements and specifications. Examples of these are shown in our Z line pedestal unit opposite.
- Spherical cartridge lubrication allows extra movement to handle flexing of the vessel hull
- Flat, solid underside of the pedestal base affords the perfect surface for chocking compounds
- Jacking screws enable simple alignment of bearings along the shaft
- Inspection holes for in-place measurement of shaft axial position
- Tapped holes for temperature and vibration sensors

SKF Cooper split bearings include

SKF Cooper split roller bearings
The design of SKF Cooper split roller bearings make them beneficial for inaccessible applications where mounting, dismounting and maintenance is a challenge, for example, between head pulley and gearbox or motor. They are also highly suitable for long shafts which require support at several positions, or on cranked shafts. Split roller bearings can therefore be the ideal solution to reduce machinery maintenance and repair downtime. They are typically mounted in a cartridge that fits into different kinds of housings, building a complete unit.
SKF Cooper split bearing units can be disassembled into smaller components, easing the tasks of lifting and handling and making mounting or replacement simple even in the most cramped and inaccessible conditions. Clearances are pre-set, so there is no requirement for any on-site adjustments or specialized fitting tools.
